San Antonio Water Systems

On November 6, 2014, San Antonio Water Systems (“SAWS”) entered into the Water Purchase Agreement with Abengoa to purchase 50,993 ac-ft (45 MGD) of water from Groundwater Leases acquired by Metropolitan Water Company, L.P. (“Met Water”) and which comprise the Vista Ridge Well Field.

Groundwater Leases
Met Water has acquired over 5,400 Groundwater Leases which cover more than 115,000 acre of land overlying the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer in Burleson and Milam Counties, Texas. Met Water started leasing groundwater rights in this area in December 1999.  During the past 15 years, Met Water’s approach to developing the groundwater resources has been so well received by the landowners that Met Water has averaged signing one new Groundwater Lease each and every day of each and every month.

Water District Permits
Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (“POSGCD”) is the regulatory body which regulates the development of the groundwater resources of Burleson and Milam Counties and issues the appropriate drilling, production and transportation permits.  POSGCD has issued the necessary Permits for the development of 70,993 ac-ft/annually from Groundwater Leases in the Porters Branch Groundwater Project.
